Lyrics

I had cocoa yesterday when Santa came my way,
Said he stopped in just to tell me there was trouble in the sleigh.
Donner had a tummy ache, Rudolph had a cold,
Dasher couldn’t find his way, and the rest were gettin’ old.

He asked me, “Got suggestions? I’m runnin’ out of time.”
Said, “The North Pole’s fallin’ apart and Christmas is on the line.”
I told him, “Santa, don’t you worry — I’ve got horses you can borrow.
They’re tough, they’re fast, they don’t complain, and they’ll get you through tomorrow.”

Now I’m flyin’ through the sky tonight with Santa in his sleigh,
Horses pullin’ fast and hard while reindeer lead the way.
Snow is swirlin’, bells are ringin’, what a wild and cheerful sight—
And we ain’t slowin’ down one bit on this crazy Christmas night.

Then Santa checked his sleigh and said, “She’s pulling to the right,
A runner’s bent, the bells are loose, and she won’t track straight tonight.”
I grabbed my tools and tightened bolts, patched the frame up nice and tight,
Said, “She’ll fly better than she did before — you’re cleared for Christmas night.”

Santa laughed his jolly “Ho ho ho,” said, “I’m sure now it’ll hold.
Now can you help me with the elves? They’re givin’ me trouble at the Pole.”
I said, “Santa, I’m on board — lead the way, I’m good to go.”
He said, “They’ve eaten all the candy canes and they’re fightin’ in the snow.”

We didn’t waste a minute, yeah, we took off like a shot,
Leaving trails of vapor from Santa’s magic the horses got.
We banked around the polar cap and skidded to the gate,
I jumped out ready for the work before it got too late.

I stepped right in the middle of that sugar-fueled stampede,
Said, “Listen up now, partners — your help is what we need.”
They dusted off their jackets, I got ‘em standin’ in a row,
And told ‘em, “Load the sleigh up fast ya'll, Santa needs to go.”

They loaded up the presents, stacked ’em tight from floor to rail,
I checked the harness one last time to make sure nothing’d fail.
Santa cracked a thankful grin and said, “Let’s finish up this ride!”
And my horses dug their hooves in as we took off side by side.

We zigzagged over housetops like a jingle-bell stampede,
Santa shouted, “Slow it down!” but the horses paid no heed.
We made a run through London then we banked it back to Spain,
Those horses eatin’ up the miles just like a hurricane.

I tipped my hat to Saturn as we were gallopin’ past the moon,
Making sure we'd get the job done and be back again real soon.
By dawn the list was finished, every home checked off just right,
And Santa tipped his cap to me beneath the first daylight.

We circled past the North Star as the morning sky turned gold,
My horses slowing gently as the Christmas tale was told.
Santa shook my hand and said, “You rode true through the night,”
Then pointed his sleigh to take me home ’neath that soft December light.

Story behind the song

“Crazy Christmas Night” came from wondering what would happen if Santa showed up at my place needing help — reindeer sick, sleigh busted, and Christmas on the line. One thing led to another, and suddenly I was writing a Texas-country adventure with horses, elves, and a whole lot of holiday chaos. It’s a fun, fast-moving story-song meant to make you smile and keep your boots tapping.
